Autopub in New York

The automobile spectacle imagined by Slavik

Guests can choose from seven dining rooms, or rather seven atmospheres, each with its own character, but all designed around the automobile theme, in keeping with the restaurant’s location in the General Motors building.

No more than 100 people per restaurant because the public prefers smaller, more intimate spaces to vast halls.

There is the Grandstand, the Pit Stop bar, and the Sandwich Shop for a quick meal in the heart of the action; the Classic Car Lounge at the counter; the Lovers Lane and the Eldorado Grill, concealed behind art nouveau doors for private meetings or romantic rendezvous; and the Drive-In Movie where diners watch short films at lunch and feature films at dinner.

A single menu limited to a small number of appetizers and a dozen main courses and desserts serves the entire establishment at the same prices for all.

All of New York is talking about this maze of restaurants filled with cars in which one can dine, vintage automobiles, the Autopub, its racing cars suspended from the ceiling, its motorcycle helmet-shaped light fixtures and bucket seats, its Laurel and Hardy films, etc. etc.
